I already know what will be said about this season: It sucks. Frankly, I agree. This game was simply an experiment by me to see what would happen if a game of Survivor were played online. It was completely disorganized, and nowhere near the quality of today's games. I must continue to stress that everyone needs to keep in mind it was the first ever full game of Survivor played online. Minis existed, and spurred the creation of OLS1, but this game was the first to launch anything full-scale, so give it some slack.
You can read the whole story if you check the "about" section of the site, but at the time I was the president of a Megaman chat club. I had most of the club play this game, hence the screen name "MMmasterX" (Survivor Guy 886 was not created until season 3). The game started under the name "AOL Survivor" or "AOLS". It wasn't until season three that OLS was truly born, so you'll notice many inconsistencies.
As far as similarities to the current Online Survivor, they are very few and far between. While the current game lasts 89 days (3 months), this game lasted 177 days (6 months). There was absolutely no organization to the way the days were scheduled, and often I neglected to schedule any meetings, hence big gaps between the days. You'll often notice the contestants wondering when the next meeting would be, and often it would be weeks. The only true similarity is that there were 39 meeting days, but even then it's not necessarily true, as occasionally Tribal Councils were held on different days than the camp meetings. All in all, a very disorganized meeting system.
Also much different than today was the meeting times. Today, everyone meets from 7:00-8:00 PM ET. In this original season, Tagi met from 3:30-3:45, Pagong from 5:30-5:45, and any challenges or Tribal Councils were from 5:45-6:00. This gave an extreme disadvantage to Tagi, and was quickly altered in subsequent seasons.
Another glaring difference is the omission of Reward Challenges. At the time I had no SP system, and could not figure out a way to give out rewards online. Thus, only Immunity Challenges were played. It would not be until season 2 that I added Reward Challenges, and I must admit I went overboard, but I digress...
As for the cast, it leaves much to be desired. For those of you familiar with more current seasons, the only familiar face will be PrinceTy01, who played this original game under the name DaFRO810 85. The rest of the cast was rather dull, mostly due to the fact that noone showed up. Except for maybe one elimination, this entire game was decided solely by attendance.
In closing, there is very little that you will find entertaining about this season. The only possible thing will be reminiscing about an era gone by. You'll be amazed how many times you'll suddenly shout "I remember that!" to a discussion about something that happened a decade ago. Other than that, you'll be digging to find anything else interesting, as very little Survivor was actually played.
If you have no patience, I'd suggest waiting for subsequent seasons to be posted. However, if you have the patience to read this season, you should find a subtle charm in an era gone by. I hope you enjoy.
