Again, I don't know why people keep bugging me to post these things (people=Benny) considering these forums are extremely inactive. The most posts by any one person as of the time of this writing is Iam, at 5. Nevertheless, I do see a small improvement, so keep it up and let's get this community going.
Anyway, Online Survivor 11 was a weird game. At first glance, it looks like we have only four returning players (Penguin, Bood, Rave, and Game) and the rest are all fresh faces. However, once you start into the episodes, you suddenly realize that quite the opposite is true. Of the remaining 14 players, 11 are returning players under aliases. In case you need a key to keep track of everything, here's a conversion list...
Dracula = Prince
Spill = Clear
Brian = Lil
Durf = Case
Skylady = Plum
Dynasty = Cybern
Xunk = Superfan
AAA = Yosh
Akkadian = Fishy
banana = Iam
Steve = Buffy
This game was entertaining simply for the fact that most of these people did not reveal their aliases, leading to massive confusion on who was whom. Strategies emerged not only based on voting, but also on how to disguise your own identity by making people think you were a new player, or someone else. It was like Survivor meets The Mole, with the twist being that every player is The Mole. As far as the new players (Fear, Nine, and Twin), every one of them is crucial to this season, and Fear will continue to be a mainstay in seasons to come.
Moving onto the game itself, this season didn't really change anything too drastically. The most major events would be the epic challenge to begin the game, and the inclusion of the first ever Hidden Immunity Idol (Type 1, simple immunity. Type 2 will come next season.) I am still very surprised that not many people remembered the opening challenge, considering it lasted two days and exhausted everyone mentally for a myriad of reasons. Perhaps they just wanted to forget it. In any event, the challenge was based on Amazing Race, since it was in the height of its popularity at the time, and nothing like it has ever been attempted before, or since. As far as the idol... the execution of it became a lame game of quick draw. Epic fail on my part.
As far as twists, there were practically none other than what I have already mentioned. The contestant who quits later in the game was probably the biggest shock the game had. To that contestant I apologize for how everything transpired. We were both right, I had just been neglecting a rule all along and when I started enforcing it he got the short end of the stick. I don't want to give any more away, so I'll just say I reveal all of the details surrounding this in the reunion.
As far as the episodes themselves, I tried to keep the same basic themes for Online Survivor 11 that I had for the previous two seasons, complete with a horrible color scheme for Nakum (unintentionally, but hey, might as well keep tradition). I will continue working on monitoring the color clashes for upcoming seasons and I'll eventually get it right. Otherwise, there weren't really many changes to the page formats. The one change I actually did make was at Tribal Councils. Those eliminated before the jury had their torches completely removed, and those after stayed, as in the past. I thought this would mimic the real Survivor a little better in giving an overview of who is there. The only other change might not be noticable to you. I learned how to make graphics have a transparant background to make things look alot crisper. That's about all. Again, If you have any other innovative ideas, let me know!
Before I finish this out, I usually try to go over memories I have of the game. Unfortunately, this is a black hole in my mind when it comes to memories. Everytime I think of this game, I only remember the double-elimination right before the merge (simply because it was kind of sad, given the circumstances) and, of course, the horrible ending -_-. The question I'm going to continually be asked is "What twist were you planning to implement after the contestant quit?" Honestly, I can't remember for sure. My best guess is something about voting anyway, and carrying over those votes to the next Tribal Council, where the cumulative votes of both Tribal Councils would eliminate someone (I'm guessing this because I'm thinking I was probably going to copy American Idol, who did that same twist around this point). I decided against it, and I probably forgot the exact details for good reason.
Moving on, as for continuing traditions in the episodes, this season used two of these things: || as a theme, simply because, well, it looks like 11. Incidentally, what the heck are those things? Does anybody know? Do they have a name? lol
Lastly, the music theme for this season was interesting. For at least the last five years, I had always planned on making OLS11's theme Mega Man 8. Why? I think because the jungle theme of this season always reminded me of Grenade Man for some reason. I knew I wanted that as the recap music to open each episode, so I built around that. When it actually came time for the season, I questioned if it was a good idea, but I decided to stick with what past me wanted. When planning it, I suddenly realized most of Mega Man 8's music sucked, so I kept what I could, and expanded to "Any Mega Man game on CD" as a theme. That means Mega Man 8, X4, X5, and X6 is the theme for this game. Surprisingly, I think it turned out pretty well, even the Mega Man 8 music. Again, some music had become mainstays by this point and wouldn't be changed, but here's the recurring music in case you're wondering (by recurring, I mean plays in every episode except maybe 1)...
Main Page = Mega Man 8 - Stage Select (Remix)
Recap = Mega Man 8 - Grenade Man
Theme = Mega Man X4 - X's Theme
Tribal Council = Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Final Night
Voting = Mega Man 8 - Sword Man
Voteout = Mega Man 8 - X's Theme (Slow Remix)
Preview = Mega Man X5 - Axle the Red
Last Words = Secret of Mana - Theme
To sum everything up, Online Survivor 11 is probably one of the most unique games in the entire series. You won't find another game with this many aliases, this great of a cast, a major fight with the host that leads to quitting, and a crappy ending. It's unique, and that combination may lead to a great season for any other game, but again... the ending -_-.
